Don't laugh. I was inspired.
This was something I really wanted to remember.
The sun was slowly setting, but our laughter was warm enough to replace the warmth of its rays. We were all off in our own world, a world where nothing bad ever happened and wonderful things happened to lowly ones such as ourselves. It almost made me forget about every reason I was here for. All I needed now was Marisol, Brooke, Simon and our memories.
What I couldn't forget was my growing love for Simon. It was futile; everyone could see he only had eyes for Marisol. But maybe for right now I could let go. Just for a little bit.
"Hey, can you hold my iPhone for a little bit?" Marisol asked, handing it to me. "Brooke and I need to get a drink."
Before I could answer they both ran off. I could hear them giggling, but for what reason I didn't know.
Their departure left Simon and me behind. Together. Alone. All the feelings I wanted to forget suddenly rushed back.
"Doesn't look like they're coming back any time soon," Simon noted, fixing his glasses. "Wanna walk?"
I felt myself freeze. "Sure...walking's good..." I said.
We started to walk. Admist the setting sun, Simon looked so perfect. His neat brown hair was hanging in clumps over his shiny, opalescent blue eyes. His glasses complemented his tiny nose and face, and his mouth was drawn up into that cute little smile he always had.
The perfect geek. Marisol deserved him; she just didn't realize it yet.
The familiar pang in my heart was cut short by Simon. "Hey, Wren, do you like anyone?"
My heart stopped. Would he figure it out? "What do you mean?"
"You know, like like?" he said. How was his voice perfect for every occasion?
"Yeah, but he's way out of my league. He likes someone else." I tried to redirect the conversation. "When are you going to ask Marisol out?"
"I told you for the last time, I don't have a crush on Marisol!" he defended. He was so cute when he was trying to lie! "I like someone else."
Instead of insisting, I decided to try something new. "Well then, what's your 'crush' like?"
He stopped walking and so did I, and he started to blush. He was adorable when he blushed! "Well...she's very beautiful, and she's smart, funny and talented. She always knows how to make me laugh, and she's always kind to others. She puts everyone else before she does. I wish I was hers; she's like perfection personified."
I wanted him to keep going but something was buzzing in my hand. Looking down, I realized I was still holding Marisol's iPhone. And it was making music.
Kiss me, out of the bearded barely...nightly, beside the green, green grass...swing, swing, swing the spinning step...you wear those shoes and I will wear that dress...
Then, it hit me. The iPhone, the giggling, leaving me and Simon alone. Simon had been telling the truth this entire time. Marisol didn't love him. She set us-
"And another thing about my crush," he continued, getting closer to me.
Oh kiss me, beneath the milky twilight...lead me out on the moonlit floor...
"I probably don't deserve her. The hell, she doesn't deserve someone like me."
Lift your open hand...
"But right now, I don't care.
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance...
"Because right now I'm gonna kiss her and love her as the best friend she's never had."
Silver moon's sparkling...
So kiss me.
And kiss me he did.
Then I heard an unmistakable giggle. All the doubts I had before were completely gone. Simon loved me. Marisol knew it. And she set us up.
It was perfect.
This was something I was gonna remember.
So kiss me...
